Health Screening

What is health screening?

Health screening is essentially used as a tool for early detection of health and medical problems. This is important because it allows for the physician and the patient to pave a path for early treatment which in turn will reduce future treatment cost and complications. It usually involves a full history, examination and catered series of tests to detect early disease in individuals who feel and look well.

Why is it important?

With many form’s of cancer increasing in our population it is increasingly important for early detection and intervention. A health screen helps us find a particular disease or condition for which there may not be any visible signs or symptoms.

When should we do a health screen & why does it have to be done more then once?

Adults between 21-30 should go for a health screen every 2 years

Adults > 30 should do yearly health screens

Many conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol often have no symptoms or signs.

Think of a blood test or evaluation as a single page in a book. It only tells us what is happening at the moment in time. Regular screening helps to detect conditions that may develop after the previous screening.

There are many health screening packages available, which one is right for me?

You can access our packages at this site (https://ashfordmedical.com.sg/health-screening-packages/) and here you can see what the different packages offer and their price points as well.

If you’re unsure about which package is right, we usually recommend speaking to one of our doctors and they’ll be able to better advise you and even curate a special package just for you and your needs!

What is expected during the process?

Once you’ve chosen a package you’ll need to visit the clinic and meet the doctor for the consultation. Please do remember to fast for a minimum of 6 hours for this visit. Blood, urine and possibly stool test will be collected followed by in clinic biometric assessment, eye and ECG screening. Imaging (such as X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT & MRI) are not done on site and will be arranged after the clinic visit. Everything is usually done within 20 minutes and you’ll be sent off with an expected result within 3-5 business days of all the tests being submitted. The doctor will want to go through the results with you, even if they’re all normal, and will advise on a appropriate follow up – this can be done via tele consultation.
